In this session we will discuss the processes of Values and Committed Action in the service of Step 3; take values-driven action. A distinction will be made between values and goals.
The common situation of apparent inter-parent values “conflicts” will be explored. I will describe the useful distinction between “choices” and “decisions”. The “two-sides of the same coin” metaphor/exercise will be discussed and practiced.
The concept of parent M.A.P.s (Motivated Action Plans) will be introduced and practiced.
Learning Objectives:
- Distinguish between values and goals in guiding parent behavior and decision-making.
- Apply the “Do What Matters” processes of Values and Committed Action to everyday parenting.
- Analyze situations of inter-parent value conflicts and explore constructive resolution strategies.
- Differentiate between choices and decisions using practical exercises and the “two-sides of the same coin” metaphor.
- Develop and practice parent M.A.P.s (Motivated Action Plans) to implement values-driven actions effectively.
